Happiness, Suffering, Miracle and Euthanasia December 30, 2008

WARNING: Some part of this entry might contains a spoiler of Happy Birthday movie, although most of you who read this entry isn’t going to watch it but I add this just in case!

I went to theater with my GF yesterday, there was so many people there it was like some rule that everyone must go to theater on Sunday afternoon. I plan to watch The Day The Earth Stood Still because the poster are so awesome and I’m (sort of) Keanu Reeves plus there is Jennifer Connelly in it, it was like awesome mixed of awesomeness! Unfortunately the earliest show we could get is 8.30PM which is way too late for us. We decide to watch another Thai movie called “Happy Birthday” instead, actually maybe just my GF that want to watch it ._.

I’m always skeptical when it comes to Thai movie, can call me racist or bias lol but every time I watch Thai movie it was either bored or disappointed. I watch trailer of this movie before, it was like tragic love story or some sort which exactly not my type -.- Anyway the movie is so-so but it has a lot of nice scenery in it some of which I don’t even know it exist in Thailand, also it got me thinking about something in the story.

What you are going to do if someone you love is suffered from brain death. This type of plot been used over and over before but I believe no one really know what is the right answer, the right answer might not even exist at all.

122908_2First half of the movie is all about a guy meet a girl and develop their relationship, funny story and a lot of beautiful scenery but that stop when the girl got into a car crash accident while she was on the way to meet her boy friend who sitting in the coffee shop across the street, watching his girl friend got hit by a car with his very own eyes. She was taken to hospital and few days later her doctor told her parent that she is suffered from brain death. Obviously the man’s world is collapsed, he still doesn’t give up hope that his girl friend is still alive and she will get well some day. He asked her parent to give him a right to take care of their daughter.

The man start losing his saving, his car and his furniture because he need money to take care of his girl friend. Now he is going to lose his social life, his friend and his job too because he couldn’t left her alone at the house when he suppose to go to work, afraid of something might happen to her when he wasn’t there. At this point I wonder that he doesn’t get the fact that his girl won’t wake up again, she can’t be fixed no matter how hard he try.

One day the girl’s parent show up and ask for him to let their daughter goes because they don’t want to see her daughter suffer anymore, of course the man doesn’t accept it. They take it to the court and of course the man lose the case and next thing he know is he standing in front of OR room (or some thing) looking at parent say good bye to their daughter.

Will you let her goes?

Euthanasia or mercy killing is the right thing to do? I know state of brain death can’t be fixed, no one will recovery from it, it is the end but if those people were wrong? If miracle does exist? I’ll regret decision of pulling the plug to stop her from suffering? Can I live with this guilt feeling that I didn’t do my best to save her?

Will you do your best to keep her alive?

Even you know that she won’t wake up? Maybe some day some one will discover how to cure people who suffered from brain death state? You really do this because you want her to get better or just don’t want to feel the guilty of not taking care of her? So who actually you do this for? person you love or yourself?

I start thinking about it and realize that euthanasa is probably the best for everyone, but I don’t think I’m brave enough to do that and never will. If this happen to me instead and I suffered from brain death, I’m pretty sure I want to die. I don’t want to stay here and cause more pain to people around me, I don’t want to stay and give them false hope, I also don’t think they are brave enough to let me go.

Improving Performance in Einherjar December 26, 2008

One of my friends introduce me to LS called “xxMatatabixx” couple weeks ago when I was talking to him about I want to find Einherjar LS that operate in my time so I can get more ichor and hopefully some abjuration, he told me there is LS he is a part of that do Einherjar twice a week on Monday and Thursday which he will ask the leader for me if I want to join, very generous of him. So I get into the linkshell and start doing Einherjar with them. I do Einherjar with them 3 times already and miss one due to lame synthesis MMM that monster that drop material we need didn’t pop at all ._. All Einherjar with them I did are tier3 chamber, Ortlinde’s Chamber. We failed every attempt, frustrate enough but at least it yields 1,920 ichors every time so I’m quite fine with it.

ff11_122608_1They are pretty decent group that have good turn out at every Einherjar, they never drop below 30 people at every attempt I attend. Party set up is good too, melee party is merit PT style, either 3 DD RDM WHM BRD or 3 DD RDM BRD BRD, they have a lot of mage as well as melee. Yet we have failed every tier 3 chamber we attempt, why? this question still bother me.

My experience of Einherjar that I did with Lunarians, we barely have 30 people attend (not counting dual-boxed account which do nothing but sit there just for flag). Our set up isn’t perfect as well seeing we have been struggled to have BRD show up, at best we probably have 3 BRD in each party of main alliance. I remember many times I attend I have to refresh 4-5 people in party including myself because we don’t have spare BRD. What we have in common is BLM party that I notice just about same amount of BLM we bring to Einherjar which is 3-4 people. Yet we manage to beat just about every tier 3 chamber in single attempt, if not then 2 attempts top.

ff11_122608_2The only different of 2 linkshells I can think of are skill, equipment and strategy.

  1. Equipment : Obviously Matatabi couldn’t touch Lunarians when it comes to member’s gear, mages has decent gears and seem to good at it but melee is another story, their melee choice of gears really need help ._. their melee seem obsess with Askar Korazin, SAM, WAR or even dual-wielding WAR were using it. I wish I can help it but I don’t think I can send them a tell in Japanese explaining what is wrong with their choice of equipment ._.
  2. Skill : While I can’t say for everyone but what I notice is their puller, need to be more careful when it comes to pulling. He seem to always rush to pull when he can spend few more second to wait until mob spread out, or 2 times that he agro boss while attempt to pull last waves of mob cause us partial wipe and lots of death that can be avoided. I don’t know how to tell him this lol, hopefully he will learn from his mistake ._.
  3. Caller : Is that what we call it? I mean someone who targeting monster and make other melee assist him. Currently we have single target caller and everyone just assist him which should be changed to double target caller and people assist both of them. While double target caller might not help with kill speed, it helps with sleeper. Trade off will be more AoE usage, some of them just doesn’t matter but some of them you don’t want it happen back to back, but this easily fixed by switch back to single caller when pull certain mob. Basically copy what Lunarians did :D just need to make sure both callers have about equal number of people assist them, I’ll try to explain this to leader next time we do Einherjar.
  4. Party setup : While Matatabi has perfect setup for party in main alliance I think they could use few more melee, I think they use idea of  main alliance of melee party and another alliance that usually consisted of 2 BLM party and another healing party which is redundant IMO. I believe just put all BLM in same party and BRD with them will be just fine, or another WHM or RDM with them instead of making 2 parties of 2 x BLM RDM BRD and random melee. Another dedicated melee party will make a worth trade with healing party too since mostly we will need extra cure because mob are up for longer than it should be.

We fail to win Einherjar but never wipe to waves of mob or boss, every failed attempt due to can’t kill boss in time. We always end up with sub 10 minutes left before engage the boss which is pretty impossible to kill tier 3 boss boss with that time left. Hopefully few changes will give us 4-5 more minutes we need to beat the chamber. Next Einherjar run will be on 1/5/09, 1 week break for new year, let’s see if I can explain this to leader and hopefully win on next attempt!

Supervisory Skills Development Program, Rant? December 23, 2008

I attend a training course called “Supervisory Skills Development Program” last week, the training last 2 days Friday and Saturday. When I first heard about this training program I have been assigned to attend I’m not much interested because I thought it was just another sort of “fake” program that I wouldn’t get anything from beside internal chit-chat and some theory which I’m pretty sure it will be forgotten within a matter of days, also have to attend course in Saturday isn’t appealing at all.

I’m pretty confident to call myself a “real” salary man at this very moment, I’m not doing anything much in my life beside this retarded cycle of wake-work-sleep which one of my friend prefers SSDD (Same Shit Different Day) term. One thing I’m certain is I don’t learn much from this job, 2 years and a half into this job and I still doubt myself dealing with things any better than when I was recruited. We are supposed to learn something when you are working right? that is something the job offers us not just a pay check, this topic always come up when I meet with my old group of school friend where we will talk about how each other doing, what job you are doing and what is it do for you. Every time I was like umm I’m ok with this job, if you ask me I have fun doing the job? Yes I do and I don’t mind doing it for awhile but they usually ask if I get anything from it that will improves myself, to be a experience for me when I grown up and move on to a bigger thing? I doubt it.

Those type of conversation always make me feel bad, depressing to be exact. It is like I waste my time running in the circle circuit. When I realize I’m no where far from where I started, time is up.

However the training turn out OK, I learn something new, get some perspective and it was sort of fun. The tutor also did a great job. I still doubt that I’ll use those stuff I learned to improve my daily job or myself, or it will be just another in one ear, out the other.

Joyeuse Backfire December 23, 2008

My friend asked me last week if I want to do Early Bird Catches the Wyrm with them. I told him sure, why not? He also ask me to come PLD if I don’t mind, of course why would I mind. I did BC99 quite a lot with Lunarians but I never was a PLD in the BC before, most of run I did I am on BLM so this is a good chance to do something different.

ff11_122208_6I wasn’t sure about which sub job I should use, I remember PLD/WAR did awesome job tanking Wyrm before and he said Wyrm is somewhat low level since he blocked its attack with his shield a lot, I also don’t remember we have any problem with PLD/WAR tanking before too. I should use WAR sub job right? but what make me hesitate is we have semi low number for the fight, 13-14 people, and I don’t play with them enough to know how well those people perform. It isn’t like in Lunarians when I know I can rely on WHM or RDM I pick for tank party, now WAR sub job doesn’t look quite appealing anymore. I decide to use NIN sub job instead.

I got to Balga’s Dais and waited almost an hour for people to come, I decide to dual box BLM as well but won’t be do anything on him much beside nuke when Wyrm takes flight. Turn out we have 14 people including my dual boxed character, decent tanking party but lacks of healing in another party. I don’t give Wyrm much credit because of my previous experience with it which all of those fights were easy, usually took around 8-10 minutes each fight. Apparently I was underestimate him by miles.

Most of run took around 20 minutes with a lot of death each fight, if I remember correct there was one RNG that died every fight and few multiple times a fight because he was in party with my dual boxed character and barely get any cure. I wasn’t in any better situation, while tank party set up looks decent but RDM in my party is half-assing at best. He cast refresh once when we about to engage and that’s it, first half of battle which Wyrm still on ground I’m fine because Wyrm attack way too slow so never get hit unless it terror me so just ballad2 and auto-refresh is enough. But when Wyrm take flight it is a different story I have been struggle to get enough MP for cure 3 let alone curing other people or casting flash, I ask him for refresh multiple times, some works some doesn’t which really piss me off. Wyrm was on air for much longer than it should be and I barely kept hate because I barely have any MP cause more BLM and RNG drawn in and get killed, it was really annoying. We did 6-7 orbs and decide to do more for left over people next week, this week.

ff11_122208_5I decide to tweak some of my gears for this week run, first I definitely need fire resist set because obviously Wyrm will take its time on air and probably I struck with half-assed RDM again so lower air borne damage as much as possible would be good idea. I still have most of my fire resist gear from 2 years of Tiamat era on my mule, missing only Cerberus Mantle which I can’t find anyone who lend me and I don’t want to buy new one just for the BC ._. so I use Valor Cape in that slot instead, I guess now we might have both half-assed PLD along with RDM :D Other than that I decide to give DD gear a shot, I’ll be using DD gears with sushi and hopefully I’ll own Wyrm with Atonement spam.

This week we have 14 people, party set up almost same as last week except we have extra WHM which is really helpful also I get new RDM who did better job. My accuracy on Wyrm with sushi is very impressive, I manage to use 1-2 Atonement before it takes flight and 1-2 more Atonement after it lands which last week I probably can use 1-2 Atonement whole fight but the drawback is Wyrm use TP move more than ever which is some thing I would expect. What I didn’t expect is it somehow uses Absolute Terror a lot more than other special move, I would be happy if it uses Horrid Roar, Dragon Breath or even Hurricane Wing but Absolute Terror is just too annoying. What I usually get is I’m terrorized then he smack me few times then switch to BLMs after terror effect gone I get hate back and hit few more times then I’m terrorized again ._. Apparently my plan to overwhelm this Wyrm by Joyeuse and Atonement spam is foiled. I’ll give it another shot next week, if Wyrm still obsess with Absolute Terror then I’ll switch back to my normal tanking set up.

On the other hand, fire resist set work extreamly well. First run I was using full fire resist set up along with Barfira and Fire Carol, Wyrm air borne attack drop to 13 damages and Flame Blast drop to 34 damage but Hurricane Wing is still hurt, it does around 440 damage with just Shell 5. Wyrm wing attack isn’t fire element, not like Tiamat wing attack which is still fire based so fire resist gear cover it too. I tried to swtich Aegis in when Wyrm readies Hurricane Wing but I was too slow most of the time ._. I decide to swap Numinous Shield +1 for Aegis in my fire resist set up to deal with wing move, I was worried at first because I wasn’t sure if fire resist I currently have will be enough to maintain full resist most of the time or not. Turn out I still resist most of Wyrm air borne attack with few partial resisted slip through which is good enough.

Oh and disadvantage of using fire resist set is I barely have any inventory left after getting all fire resist gears from my mule -_-, but anyway fire resist set is way to go for this BC so get them when you think about doing Early Bird Catches the Wyrm!

Moblin Maze Mongers Maniac December 22, 2008

ff11_122208_11I have been obsessed with this time wasting mini game SE add to FF11 in the latest update called “Moblin Maze Mongers” or MMM in short past few days.  My first hand experience on it is trio starter maze with 2 of my friend with level 75 cap, it was easy but take a quite while I think maybe about 15 minutes. Reward was somewhat decent since I got like 1,200 EXP from mob and reward box, I thought this is another potential method to recap my buffer that I could do it easier on my free time.

I start to get more information about MMM and learned that to make different type of maze, different type of objective or more complicated maze I need more Maze Rune, Maze Voucher and possibly Maze Tabula as well. Here is what problem begin, all of them are purchasable from NPC using currency call Moblin Marble which I got from clearing maze in very small amount, 15 for starter maze. I skim on list of Maze Rune and they require at 100-500 marbles for each rune so 15 marbles a day, maybe 30 if I do on both character isn’t going to make getting more rune take a quite while. I decide to run more of my mule from home nation to Jeuno just so I can do more farming marble run using my mule maze, I’m more and more getting into this MMM stuff ._.

ff11_122208_4Next plan is build efficient maze for marble farming,  I can use only 01 Tabula which is kill all enemies objective because crafting or fighting the boss would be too hard for me to duo even if they give more marble I don’t think it worth the risk. Starter maze with 106 and 109 rune  gives 15 marbles each run, basic idea of increasing amount of marble per run is make it harder like make monster inside stronger, lessen time limit, give penalty on using skill/spell and such. Obviously how hard we make our maze doesn’t matter when we enter with level 1 mule. I take a look at runes list on wiki and BG thread and found that runes that modify monster status and behavior are somewhat pricey, 200-300 marbles each. So I will go with one that modify maze rule first. 100 (Trial by Velocity) , 101 (Trial by Budget), 102 (Trial by Numbers) and 103 (Amnesiac’s Trial) will be my first target, I’ll get 101 first I think since it seem to increase most marble out of three. I don’t think I’ll get 104 (Trial by Silence) because mostly I do maze on my RDM by train and -ga or just cast randomly on mob, unable to use spell would be pretty annoying. I’ll need at least 5 more more run on my mule to get enough marble to buy them so maybe next week.

Rune also can be found in reward box after clearing each maze as well but rarely. I  got 2 runes drop out of probably 15 of my own run with in few days, it must be either drop rate is way too low or my luck is way too bad or both ._. Either way I’ll be doing MMM for awhile to get enough marbles to buy more run or get more run drop until I can make decent maze which gives decent drop, I hope.

ff11_122208_2Other than level 1 run I did couple of synthesis run on my friend maze, both failed. First run was quite a experiment run because we don’t know how to do any of it, I even thought I have to actually synthesize the requested item myself ._. turn out it isn’t exactly synthesis but more like another type of co-op mission. The 2nd run we know a lot more and almost clear it but we failed the synthesis and have to gather more material so we don’t have enough time to win the maze after finish the synthesis.

ff11_122208_3While MMM is fun I think SE still keep repeat same old mistake, effort versus reward in their content is broken once again. I said this because no matter how many people you bring into maze or level of who create maze the reward still depending on type of maze and combination of rune and voucher (objective). You get same amount of marble and probably same rune drop rate on your level 1 character maze as level 75 character maze, what is different is EXP you get and possibly monster dropped item which who care seriously? While getting EXP from MMM is another method to get your buffer but I don’t think anyone care about EXP, they care about drop. At least make higher level cap maze give more reasonably amount of marble that worth player time and effort to clear them.

I decide to leave my linkshell few days ago. I admit it is probably a rush decision but after reconsider it again and again past few days, talking to my friends, I think it is best for me to leave, so that is the end of my journey with Lunarians. It is a kind of frightening when I’m thinking about it. I’m in the linkshell for almost 4 years and now I’m not, I don’t have blue circle in front of my name anymore. I still don’t think much about what I’m going to do next, probably just same crafting, farming routine and get back to Dynamis and Einherjar. I probably drop crafting and farming for a bit because there is almost no point to make money right now and I don’t feel really well so it is a good to take sometime off.

I’m thinking about other options for me to get chance to do some stuff I want, obviously join another HNMLS isn’t an option because I don’t want to.  I asked few of my friend about their Dynamis linkshell if I could tag along and they are OK with it so that is a start, another thing I want to get back to is Einherjar but option is very limited right now. Only viable option for me is JP shouting linkshell which they do Einherjar around 10PM my time, I’ll have to ask their leader again if there is still a spot open or not. It is a bit late for me to attend, if they say they start at 10PM then they probably need like another hour to gathering and actually enter around 11PM so it is a good chance for me to get to bed at midnight ._.

Another thing that I’m worry about is my static Nyzul run. I have bad feeling about it and I think it will fall apart sometime soon. We still have problem that people don’t show up on time while there are couple members who really serious about time because they have real life stuff to deal with after, I don’t care much about this thought because it is like 1AM when we start so obviously I don’t have anything else to do beside go back to bed. I’m convincing myself I understand them although it is a kind of frustrated sometimes it happens.

I probably don’t have any juicy update for awhile though until I manage to get things settled again. Time will tells.

Evolution of Balu-Falu December 4, 2008

I start leveling my NPC fellow back in September, 2 months past and now my fellow Balu-Falu is reaching level 70. I learn while I was leveling my fellow that there are two series of quest regarding adventuring fellow, increase level cap of fellow and increase fellow bond series.

ff11_103008_4I’m not a fan of questing and certainly won’t be doing any series of quest unless I have to, well this apply to leveling adventuring fellow as well. Obviously I have to do level cap quest for my NPC unless I want him to stay at level 50 forever but what is new to me is I need to do another series of quest for adventuring fellow bond quest as well. What is adventuring fellow bond? it is just another cockblocking method from SE. Adventuring fellow bond is fame in this content, you need certain amount of it to receive level cap quest or fellow related quest as well as increasing in duration and max killed mob that NPC will stay with you for. So cockblocking suits my definition of it well?

That is my first impression when I realized I have to do series of quest for fellow bond along with level cap quest, I’m sure not a good role player heh. Well that change when I actually do it, sure it took a lot of time running around the world just to talk and watch cut scene but this time I actually read it not just mindlessly press button. I won’t give any spoilers but I can assure you it is worth your time, well you possible don’t have a choice but to complete them for your fellow but hey don’t spam button to get through cut scene! :P
