Current gear set for Stoneskin

Weapon : Mythic Wand +1 (+9 MND)
Sub : Numinous Shield +1 (+3 MND, +15 MP)

You can clearly see it from my current gear set for Stoneskin, I was a MND nerd and it was way overkill to cap Stoneskin damage absorbed. According to wiki with me being a Mithra Redmage and if I’m wearing Warlock’s Tights (+15 Enhancing Skills) and Enhancing Torque (+7 Enhancing Skills) I’ll need total of 88 MND to cap out my Stoneskin.
- +21 MND for RDM/WHM (base 67 )
- +26 MND for RDM/BLM (base 62 )
- +28 MND for RDM/DRK (base 60 )
- +28 MND for RDM/NIN (base 60 )
Since I’m not hardcore enough to make Stoneskin gear set for each subjob I use and the difference of MND value of each subjob is 7 top, I figure I could get away with one set. Goal of this set is to cap Stoneskin damage absorbed (350 damage) with less gear swap and keep amount of HP and MP I have close to my idle gear set as much as possible, let’s take a look at my new set.
New gear set for Stoneskin

Sub : Raptor Leather Strap +1 (+2 MND, +10 MP, +15 HP)

Head : Warlock’s Chapeau (-10%/-5% Casting Time/Recast Time, +20 MP)
Neck : Enhancing Torque (+7 Enhancing Skills)
Earring1 : Loquacious Earring (-2%/-1% Casting Time/Recast Time, +30 MP)
Earring2 : Relaxing Earring
Body : Duelist’s Tabard (-10%/-5% Casting Time/Recast Time, +24 MP)
Hands : Yigit Gages (+5 MND)
Ring1 : Serket Ring (Convert 50 HP to MP)
Ring2 : Aqua Ring (+5 MND)
Back : Prism Cape (+4 MND, +10 MP, +10 HP)

With this set I maintain capped Stoneskin damage absorbed and gain other positive statuses, mainly is Fast Cast bonus which reduce my casting time from 7.8 second to 5.8 second, 2 second is a small amount but finish casting 2 second faster is very useful nonetheless.
I swap Mahatma Slops for Warlock’s Tights because they both give same result for Stoneskin potency but with Warlock’s Tights I get 13 MP more, although MP doesn’t matter much beside casting when I’m at full MP or close to but the comparing status which is -4 Enmity is just useless when cast Stoneskin as well so I figure since I can’t ditch Warlock’s Tight anyway (give grants me 1 more damage reduction from Phalanx) and +13 MP put me closer to what my idle gear set gives so I use Warlock’s Tights.
I’m thinking about swap Warlock’s Chapeau for Duelist’s Chapeau after initiate cast spell so I can get refresh effect while I’m casting Stoneskin but with Fastcast effect I have I will finish casting Stoneskin in 5.8 second (10*((100-42)/100)=5.8) that mean I get literally 1 extra MP for my effort before I swap back to idle gear set.
Improvements
- Stone Gorget or Stone Mufflers, both will increase Stoneskin damage absorbed cap to 380 or 410 which are awesome but they both are kind of hard to get for me. Stone Gorget is more realistic since I might be able to solo Satiator with dual-boxed and NPCs and get people to help with Provoker sometime but Stone Mufflers is just impossibly for me right now, also with Stone Gorget and Mufflers I might have to adjust other gears to make up for MND and skills loss but that can wait until I actually got one.
- Cheviot Cape or Umbra Cape, I’ll get extra -5%/6% physical damage taken. Cheviot Cape barely sells on AH so maybe I’ll have to farm material myself. My Stoneskin sill capped without +4 MND from Prism Cape for WHM and BLM sub job but for DRK and NIN I short 2 MND, I could fix this easily thought.
funny how you came out with this post the day after I get my duelist head. I was about to start looking for some red mage macro ideas cause I need to revamp mine as well.. Good job on your post today… I have very strange setups for my rdm. Maybe I will post them sometime… lol
